minimal vintage living room
hi everyone, so today i have an apartment tour for you. this video is probably my most requested video i have been putting it off, but i finally have it ready, so before we jump into it i quickly want to give you a bit of background about this apartment, because when we moved to germany, almost exactly three years ago now we decided to only rent furnished apartments which worked really well for the first year and a half but then we unfortunately had to move really quickly we had a couple weeks to find a new place and we weren't able to find a furnished place. which is unfortunate because we didn't want to deal with buying furniture and especially in germany you have to buy all of the cabinets and appliances,
everything. so it's a lot to invest in a place that we didn't want to deal with but we were able to get this apartment which came with at least a kitchen and everything else we got the majority of the furniture secondhand and we've kind of been able to build a nice little home while still being pretty minimalist, and i will stop rambling about it let's jump right in! welcome to our home! so, right at the beginning here we have this little entryway where we hang up our jackets we have all of our shoes down here, and then this shelf where we keep hats, bags, sunglasses, keys, our shopping bags. and then coming into the apartment is this really long hallway, ben keeps his bike over here and right away on the left is our bathroom.
our bathroom is pretty small and also kind of a weird shape, but it's a basic bathroom. we've got our sink, a cabinet above, a cabinet below, we have this beautiful, beige-y pink tile which i absolutely hate. then behind me is our shower, and right next to the shower, we have our washing machine and on top of it there is a box with our laundry products some of my oils, deodorant, hairbrush, soaps, that kind of thing just some extra bathroom stuff. and then behind the door here is the toilet. so back out into this hallway which is way too big, but what we usually do is we set up our laundry drying rack here
so we hang all of our laundry to dry and use some of this space, but i wanted to clean that up for you guys, and then over here is our kitchen. so our kitchen is actually the biggest room in the apartment, and because it's so big we got this huge table which i love. this is my favorite piece of furniture i think we've ever owned. when we got it, it was actually a dark brown, but then ben sanded it all down, and i just love this table so much. we work at it, ben usually works over here, we have dinner parties, people over. because this kitchen is so big, it's nice to have a big table like this i think this room would feel really empty without it. over here we have all of our cabinets and appliances which we bought from the previous tenant, and
we actually have way too much space. we took out one of the cabinets up here because we didn't need it at all and put this shelf in instead. and then our stove, some fruits and oils, and then over here we have our plates and bowls, like i said we're only using about half of these. we have tea, and our mugs. and then in the final one we have glasses and water bottles. down here we have our sink, we keep our cleaning things in here, recycling bins, and then over here is our pantry, where we keep all of our non-refrigerated foods, so we have vitamins, spices, baking stuff, lentils, beans, sauces, and then we have our glass recycling, paper recycling, and garbage down there. i try to grow plants, unfortunately this apartment is really dark. i tried to grow a lot of different herbs, and as you can see this mint is already, aww,
is already not doing so well. i really like this thing to put plants on but it's just not a really good apartment to have indoor plants and we have to have plants that are fine with low light which a lot of herbs unfortunately aren't. and then over here we have this thing i made, it's just like a photo wire with magnets where we hang up a bunch of photos of our friends and family, and then we just have our fridge behind the door here. ta-da! so then going back out, we have a little window here where we keep our peace lily - luckily we have this nice big window for it. so then in our living room
it's a pretty narrow room, so we have this "l" couch here, and this couch can also be a bed, which is great for when we have people over, and it has storage underneath it, so i keep my tripod and filming equipment, and we have some extra bedding in there and then little plant stand, and we have another plant over here. and this rug is one of the few things that we brought from canada. it's from oaxaca, mexico and it's all naturally dyed it's just one of those really special pieces that we wanted to bring here with us. and then over here we have both of our yoga mats, and then here is this standing desk
it's actually a bar table, but i use it as a standing desk or i can also sit at it and then i just have my laptop, and desk stuff. over here, we have a bit of storage where we keep board games, recording equipment, some art supplies, paper files, we have some photos and some art and this little weaving that i made, and then these are our books which we don't have on kindle, and this beautiful aloe vera plant, which is one of my favorite plants, and it's also survived well which is really good. and then over here is our bedroom.
we have our bed of course, and a little nightstand where we have the book i'm currently reading. some cacti over there, and then here is where we hang all of our clothes which are worn, but they don't need to be washed i talked about this in the bedroom tour i did years ago because we had a little chair for that but i really like this ladder thing to hang those up. and then we have quite a full laundry basket because i didn't want to do laundry and have laundry out when i was filming this, and then over here is our wardrobe.
so in here we have all of our hanging clothes, on this side is ben's clothes, and then here's where i keep most of my capsule wardrobe pieces but i also have my two formal dresses hung up in here and then i get this question a lot as to where i keep my out-of-season pieces and most of them are actually on the bottom here which isn't the best place to store them, it's probably better to put them in some kind of box where they're more protected but that's where i have some extra space so i keep them folded down there. and then in this drawer is all of my socks and underwear and bras, and at the top there we keep our backpacks and some of our traveling stuff.
and then on this side is a lot of our folded things, so i have my sweaters up there, and then some more clothes here, a lot of ben's clothes, my tank tops and t-shirts, and then activewear and then on the other side... this side of the wardrobe is extra storage at the top we have a blanket which i'll be pulling out when it gets colder and our other sheet. here is my knitting projects and we have this iron steamer which i'm actually gonna get rid of, i was using it mostly for work, but i got a smaller travel steamer and i find i don't really need the iron and then here is our scarves and winter things which again will be pulled out when it gets colder, my sewing machine and some of my
fabric and sewing supplies, and then our big suitcase at the bottom there which is what we moved here to germany with. and that is basically it for our apartment! so i hope you enjoyed seeing our apartment, like i mentioned earlier. this is definitely not my favorite apartment. it's probably my least favorite actually it's a really old building, the layout is strange, and it's also pretty dark. we filmed on a really sunny day, and really brightened up the exposure, so it probably doesn't look dark in the video but as soon as the clouds come out it can get pretty gloomy in here, so yeah, it's been ok though i think we've still managed to make a pretty nice little home here,
i definitely am excited to hopefully move in the next year or so though but i hope you enjoyed seeing where we live, and how i've kind of set up the apartment thank you for watching, and thank you so much to those of you supporting me on patreon and i'll see you in the next one.
