erika: hey guys. i am here today at the new yorkdesign center, which is 16 floors of just the mostbeautiful furniture and fabric and furnishings. it's incredible. and i'm here today, talkingwith the founder of blog design milk, jaime derringer. now, a lot of people don'treally know how to incorporate modern furniture intotheir home.

but she does. so we're going to talk to herabout some of her favorite picks and how to bring moderninto your house. how did you get into designmilk and modern furniture? jaime: i love to share moderndesign with the world. and i've got a boring day job. and then i decided tojust do something creative on the side. and this is whatcame out of it.

erika: so we're here in designlush, which i think is an amazing sample of super modern, super cool, clean lines. what are you loving right now? jaime: so i love the copper, brass, gold trend. and i never thought i would saythat, because i'm always one of those girls are alwayswears silver jewelry and everything. and then i was like,oh, you now what?

it's really grown on me. and because this has a geometricshade to it, that just adds to it for me, becauseanything geometric, i'm totally on it. erika: so what elseare you loving? let's take a look. let's walk around. jaime: yeah. let's check it out.

these lamps are actuallymade from wood. the designer actually cast amold, and so the outside is cast and the inside is nice andshiny, so it gives off a beautiful light. but it's really unique and itbrings a nice natural element. erika: so how would you use thisin a space that didn't necessarily have a lofty feel. could you? jaime: yeah, absolutely.

in fact, i love howit looks here. when you group multiplestogether, i think it really makes it more impactful. any kind of odd number. erika: ok. so tell me about this table. jaime: marble is a hugetrend right now. and i've been seeing a lotof the light marble. but this is dark marble, so ilike it even more, because i

love the matte finishof this table. erika: that's cool. jaime: you see a lot of shinyblack furniture, but having a matte finish, it justlooks really sleek. erika: where to next? jaime: we're gonna go checkout fabrics and rugs. let's do it. jaime: going fromhard to soft. erika: so we arehere at kravet.

we're looking at someamazing fabrics. so what is it you love aboutthese fabrics and upholstery? jaime: so the first thing i loveabout this fabric is that it has nice soft lines. the ikat fabric softens any kindof modern line, so it's a great thing to pairin your house. erika: see, now, i feel likesometimes you wouldn't look at this and think that thiswas exactly modern. jaime: no.

it's not. it's more of a traditionalfabric. but the updated neon coloring, and if you pair it with the bright modern furnishing,it absolutely works. erika: we're here at kasthall. and these rugs are by whom? jaime: paola navone. erika: paola navone. jaime: yes.

erika: so tell me whyyou're loving this. jaime: well, firstof all, we're standing on a giant doodle. so how cool is that? so it's just a scribbled turnedinto a rug, so it's a nice little centerpiece. but she also did three otherrugs for kasthall in what i think is just the coolest, newest trend. this is kind of like a marriagebetween the ombre

trend and the '70s trend--essentially, an updated, modernized tie-dye. this is not the rainbow tie-dyeof your groovy parents at woodstock. it's a sophisticated tie-dye. so with everything that wetalked about and what you've seen today, how would you usethese rugs with some of that furniture and fabric? jaime: you could do thiswith the classic.

you could do this with sometraditional furniture. and i think if you lovesomething, that's the most important part about design. there's no reason why you shouldfollow trends if you don't love it. if you love it, thenhold onto it. it'll come back in style. erika: thank you so muchfor coming by. i had so much fun.

it was amazing. jaime: thank you forinviting me. erika: and you had great tipsand really cool things to show us, so i had a reallygood time. it was fun. if you want to find out moreabout ms. jaime and all things modern design, check outher blog design milk-- design-milk.com. as always, keep watching spaces, and if you haven't
