peloponnesian paradisea stylish holiday home in greece now let's venture to the southernmost tipof the peloponnese peninsula in greece. the area is literally the stuff of legends,as it is the setting for several greek mythological stories. it's where hercules battled the nemean lionand paris of troy eloped with helen to cause the trojan war. we're off to visit an italian couple who owna stunningly beautiful holiday home there. they take little breaks there several timesa year, but i'm not sure why they ever leave. a traditional greek stone cottage - on thesouthern tip of the peloponnese peninsula.
federico tasso und antonella carpani fromitaly converted it into a holiday getaway. they spend as much time as they can here inmani. "good day. hello. welcome to our house in mani." "please come in" the cottage's interior mirrors the coloursof the natural surroundings. "about the colours and the choice of the colours. this has been very easy because we are somuch in love with mani.
and so close to the sea as you can see outside. that the concept was to capture these coloursand to capture the blue of the sea inside the house. so you can see the details of the doors andthe chairs and everything are exactly the blue of the sea. and about the rest you can see sand, sandcolours on the floor. on the ceiling. natural, neutral colours complete the everything." traditional regional items lend the cottagea typically greek flair.
"well what i wanted to have was somethingsimple but traditional and local. something that i could find here in greece. i went around and found these plates for example. they're very nice coloured. simple. or the carpets which are also coloured whichbring some beautiful colours in the house." the couple collects stones and objects fromthe beach to decorate their cottage. most of all, the two appreciate their unobstructedview of the sea. "being so close to the sea and so in lovewith this place that i...
it's always been a dream. now it’s a dream i can live. to wake up in the morning and just to stretchmyself and look outside and see how is the weather, how is the sea. and i can just few metres ways look at this. it's great, really great." the bathroom is at the far end of the cottage– right up against a steep cliff. "we decided to have one opening here, onedoor opening towards the rock. and we decided also to have this - lets say- hue, this colour, nuance, which is exactly
reflecting somehow the colour of the rock." the cottage boasts 100 square metres of space. "you can see the canape or sofa has been madein bricks. so from the same structure of the rest ofthe house. just laid some mattresses on top of it. and you see also here is a functional wayto have some closets." the living room and kitchen merge together. instead of doors, there are curtains. the couple wanted to add an annexe to thecottage, but local authorities initially prohibited
it: they wanted to preserve the traditionalscenery. "the solution was to have these two piecesof glass. from down to the top. and a very lean and simple roof here. this was ok for them. and at the same time, it turned out to bevery good also for bringing the maximum level of light from outside into the house. also at night it's nice. when it's light in and you can see the lightfrom outside.
it is nice." old and new elements seamlessly blend intoeach other. "so the house, both houses, are made of stones. local old stones. they were visible also from inside. so we decide to have white - for the purposeof light - have white interior walls. including this one covered in a little bitof texture. and leaving these two pieces as a quotationof what was-- the stone visible from inside. still enjoyable for your looking."
the cottage exterior and interior harmonizewith each other. (04:15)the chairs reflect the structure ofthe reef roof, and the patio picks up the colour of the surroundings. a perfect holiday getaway. not least because of its stunning location.
