nid sene modern design is as popular now as when it was first createed. might be more popular now. i'm a bit obsessed with it. matt and i were going through this book. i would like to live here and i would like to live there.

this book has a guide to minnesota. the author is larry miller. we're so happy to larry with us here on midmorning. congrats on the book. thank you, thank you. absolutely beautiful. photos are stunning.

but it's the stories we hind the homes -- do you think it's the architecture that draws people to it or the story? in my book, i always try to tell the story with the architecture and many of the buildings in terms of how you develop them, how they came to

be. is there any unifying characteristic when you say midcentury mooedern? i often see these big, beautiful windows on these homes. is there something like that that's a through line?

it's a style that includes typically a lot of glass, open floor plans. horizontal look but it's also a style where you get a full range of different types. in the book you focus on residential houses as well. but there's also furniture in

there, there's also -- there is a temple in there. churches. all sorts of different arky architecture that maybe at the time -- when these houses first went up were people excited or skeptical? they were excited.

they made a conscious decision and. [inaudible [inaud [ible] it's interesting some of the businesses as well. there's dairy queen kind of built in.

beautiful roseville. i love that. it's my favorite, too. roadside architecture came into its own in the 1950s because of the prevalence of the cars and the suburban culture that was developing. have a little bit of that.

never have the kind of roadside architecture like california. why do you think the furniture has made a bit of a comeback? i'm obsessed with it also. i look at it now, it's kind of that madman look? is there anything with that

culture impact? i think it's partly that. i think things send to skip a generation. one generation gets tired of something but a new generation comes along and looks bad. that's gonna be cool. it was a great era for

furniture. probably the outstanding for furniture design in america. minnesota is an interesting place with blue do the here and room and board and both of those. there was some that came out of here.

we weren't a big furniture center. it's really a big part of the midcentury look. and just to speak directly to my wife, yif been trying to buy this furniture for my home. she says it's too moder. how would you answer that?

i don't think it's too modern. tell her 60 years old. 60 years old. so. some of these buildings are on the national register of places. it's become an historical style

but it's a very modern historical style. have you been surprised at the resurgence of this style? a little bit. when i started this book, i thought this was just the beginning. people were starting to see it

again. but it's definitely been a rear is juns. the book is called minnesota
