modern living room end tables

do you have an old piece of furniture? maybeit's a table that needs a little touch-up. my friend mitchell is about to show you whatyou can do with it. you know what i love? all of my velvet paintings that i've beencollecting. love my jewelry box that was my grandmother's. love this little thing thati took from my mom's house. you know what i hate? this table. let's go change it. andthis is what i love about this piece: it's solid wood. i really, really love that thedrawers are in good condition. it's good, sturdy, sold wood, and it's pretty heavy forhow it is. so it's not worth just chucking or cutting up to make into something else.a good way to protect the top of things you wanna cover is wallpaper. i don't particularlycare for it for this piece because it's just

meh. the wallpaper's pretty -- i think i canput it to better use. what i'm choosing to use is this: and this is decorative paperthat i got at our local art supply store. for this, it's just the right size. it's gota contrast -- it's lighter on top, so i think it'll look really pretty. so what i did beforeeven bringing this in the house is i went on the back porch and sprayed it with somemultipurpose clear enamel. this is just basic clear coat. and what clear coat does, becauseit's not water based, this is enamel based, is it coats the paper and will keep it structurallytogether. so the first thing i'm going to do is lay this down so i can pick it up reallysuper fast. this is craft bond spray adhesive. so i'm just gonna do a thin coat of it onthe paper and a thin coat on the top here,

and i'm gonna cover it as evenly as i can.instead of going from one side to the other, is to take it and fold it up like this andput it down in the middle and you center it. you can eyeball it and run your finger throughhere this way. and then we pull from the center out. this will keep it from getting thosebubbles and wrinkles. okay, now, i'm going to go around the edge really good like this.this will make it easier to cut it off. you wanna get that corner fold. just turn thisover. and i'm gonna take a sharp edge. i suggest using an x-acto knife or a razor blade, ratherthan scissors, because you can get right close. so i'm gonna use the edge of this as a guide.kind of -- i'm putting it kind of diagonally into this to the end. look how cool this looks.i love this. okay, now we gotta do this little

strip. so what we do is measure it. that lookscool. and, again, i'm gonna go to the middle. so i've stuck it down right there with myfinger. and there i go. work the edges in together. push down on that and fold it up.this, i'm going to cut there. just kinda saw it with the folding under. i'm gonna do thison both sides. where it's easy to get caught up in is if you start folding like this andthen it wrinkles and then you've got it pushed that way. so, again, you wanna work from themiddle and work your way out. and you just push and push under and push under. and theni'm just running using the edge as my guide. the final piece: what we have left is thislittle piece that we need to cover. and i'm just going to patch this one in. just getthat right as close as we can. and we're just

pushing it and working it with our fingers.ta-da. let's go see what it looks like. it's awesome and i made it. and you can make onetoo because it's super easy. i hope you go find some paper and cover something cool inyour house.
